Role description

Volunteer Services supports the staff and volunteers of St. Columba’s Hospice. We are looking for a volunteer to help us with our Better Impact database and who can support our Iona Café Manager and Lead Receptionist with their volunteer rotas. We are a small, friendly team and this is an opportunity to learn a new database system and experience life both in a Hospice and in a busy volunteer services department.

Hospice staff and volunteers are expected to reflect our Hospice Values in the way they carry out their roles, and in their interactions with each other and with patients, family members and any other visitors.

What will I be doing/involved in?

  • The Better Impact Database

  • Supporting Iona Café and Reception with rotas

  • Other admin as required

What experience or skills do I need?

  • Previous experience of database work may be helpful but is not essential as full training will be given

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Calm and unflappable with a sense of humour

  • The ability to work as part of a team with a helpful and flexible approach

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Confident speaking to people on the telephone

  • A good understanding of confidentiality and boundaries

  • The ability to relate to a wide range of people and to quickly build trust and confidence

Time commitment and duration

One morning/ afternoon per week.
The role will be reviewed on a yearly basis

Additional Information

  • Hospice Chaplains are always available to support volunteers
  • Volunteers may claim reasonable travelling expenses for transport to and from the Hospice, or the place you volunteer, e.g. one of our retail shops. Please speak to your manager about this.
  • The Hospice provides complimentary tea and coffee to all volunteers, staff, patients and families as part of the hospitality strategy.
  • If you volunteer for a full day at the Hospice, you can claim a free meal from the staff café or Iona Café. Please speak to your manager about this.
