Resilience Based Clinical Supervision

We are delighted to work in partnership with the Foundation of Nursing Studies (FoNS) and Hospice UK to deliver RBCS training to teams within St Columba’s Hospice Care and the wider Palliative Care Community throughout the UK.

What is it?

Resilience Based Clinical Supervision (RBCS) is a form of restorative clinical supervision characterised by:

  • Co-creating a safe space
  • Integrating mindfulness-based stress-reduction exercises
  • Focusing on the emotional systems motivating our response to a situation
  • Considering the role of our internal critic in sustaining or underpinning our response to a situation
  • Maintaining a compassionate flow to self and consequently to others

Who is it for?

Although it has the word 'clinical' in it’s name, this form of supervision is appropriate for any person that works in any team at St Columba’s Hospice Care.

The underpinning theory of how we work in sessions draws on Compassion focused therapy and it is available to anyone who finds the emotional, psychological and physiological aspects of their work challenging.

I really liked the structure of each session following safe space agreement, grounding, checking in, discussion – and allowing each participant to be involved in leading a section

How do I get involved?

We will offer this training virtually for groups of up to 8 participants. Sessions are participatory and involve active learning and reflection.

The total commitment is approximately 14 hours per participant, including pre-work, group work, reflection, and evaluation. We are delighted to be able to offer this course free of charge.

If your work involves delivering, or supporting those who deliver palliative care, and you would like to speak to us about how RBCS might help, please get in touch using the link below.

Really helped me connect with my own innate wellbeing and how I deal with the threat and drive systems

Enjoyed all of it! The training felt very ‘live’ and provided good opportunities to learn with a group and feel supported at the same time. Strong facilitation meant that the group felt safe very quickly for me and soon became a space to look forward to being in. Reminded me of the value of talking about the work we do with colleagues and acknowledging the potential impact of working with death and dying
