7. Fundraising

This year, your fundraising efforts across a range of events and campaigns helped us raise our total income of £13.5m (including investment gains). It’s an outstanding achievement.

With your help, our community fundraising increased by over 30%, our work to gain the support of trusts and foundations continues to develop and our key events have performed well.

A strong source of income continues to be gifts in wills, with legacy donations proving a special, and vital, part of our revenue.

Regular giving and in memory fundraising has also done well, and added to our annual Light up a Life appeal and gifts from individuals more generally, we’ve seen over £500,000 from these income areas.

While the overall picture is positive, there are some areas where we’d like to see improvement. We’ve faced challenges securing the higher levels of sponsorship income we’ve seen in previous years, which we think is due to societal factors and supporters finding it harder to get sponsorship for taking part in events.

Our retail team had a fantastic year, with the total income brought in by the shops rising by almost 10% compared with last year. We’ve expanded back into Stockbridge and the location has proved to be a great success for us with wonderful sales and terrific donations coming in. Across Edinburgh and East Lothian our shops are busy hubs, offering first class retail experiences from our committed team of staff and volunteers, as well as spreading vital awareness about the work of the Hospice and our role in the community.

The above provides just a brief snapshot of the many and varied ways our community helps us raise the income we need to support individuals and families across our area.

We simply couldn’t generate the funds needed without our wonderful supporters who take on a challenge, donate at Christmas, visit our shops, leave a gift in their Will, and every other incredible form of support.
