Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to join the research team at St Columba’s Hospice, where you will help develop the palliative care evidence base by helping to lead research studies in the area of palliative care rehabilitation and nutrition.

The post comprises 4 weekdays (3 research, 1 clinical), weekend work (9am-3pm Saturday and Sunday – maximum 1 in 8 frequency) and the occasional late (6pm) weekday finish. There is an additional overnight on-call commitment, currently one-week night every five weeks

St. Columba’s Hospice Care is a leading Specialist Palliative Care Service, providing inpatient facilities for 22 patients, a range of Community based palliative care services and a busy and productive Education and Research Centre. In addition to clinical activities, the successful applicant will participate in teaching and training, and be part of the Hospice clinical governance framework.

The Hospice has research as a core strand of its 5 year strategy “Care and Compassion Matters” (recently complete) and will be a key element of the new strategy “Adapting to a Changing World”. The successful candidate will work alongside a small team with significant palliative care research experience. The post also includes a day a week of clinical work in outpatient and inpatient settings. It is expected that the post holder will attain a higher degree (MD) and that the research will lead to a variety of peer-reviewed publications.

Experience in Palliative Medicine is highly desirable but not essential, and applicants must have full registration with the General Medical Council, with a current licence to practise.
