Poetry to reflect, connect & express
This Creativity & Wellbeing Week (19-25th May 2025), we’re inviting everyone in our hospice community—patients, families, staff, and visitors—to explore the power of poetry. Whether you’re a seasoned writer or simply curious, this is your chance to express yourself and be inspired. This year’s theme is ‘New Horizons in Creative Health’ and we have three opportunities for you to get involved!
Write Here, Right Now: a space to pause and create
May 13–21 | Outside Iona Café
Drop by our quiet, reflective poetry space any time throughout the week. Writing prompts and materials will be available to help you get started. Write your own poem, share one that resonates with you, or just enjoy reading others' contributions.
Can’t attend in person? You can also submit a poem by email: arts@stcolumbashospice.org.uk (please use “New Horizons” as the subject line).
New Horizons poetry workshop: writing for wellbeing
May 20 | 1:00–2:30 PM | Fidra Room
Join us for a relaxed and welcoming workshop where we’ll write together. Try out different poetry styles like blackout and found poetry, or craft something entirely your own. No previous writing experience is needed, and all materials are provided.
Spaces are limited (8–10 people), so please get in touch to reserve your place.
Voices from New Horizons: an evening of shared poetry
May 22 | 6:00–7:00 PM | Fidra Room
Come and listen to poems created during the week—whether written at our ‘Write here, right now’ space, during the workshop, or sent in by email. Authors are invited to read their own work, or we’re happy to read it on their behalf. It’s a gentle, thoughtful evening of shared expression and community.
Everyone is welcome to take part—patients, families, staff, and visitors. To sign up, ask questions, or share your poem, contact arts@stcolumbashospice.org.uk.
