Our 2022 Light up a Life appeal has raised over £112,000 for Hospice care!
We are today delighted to announce that our 2022 ‘Light up a Life’ appeal raised over £112,000, an increase on the £105,000 total of 2021!
As many in the Hospice community will know, the Light up a Life appeal which is our biggest fundraising campaign of the year, and runs each winter. The money raised is used to provide extra special care for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families throughout Edinburgh & East Lothian.
Director of Income Generation, Jon Heggie, said: “We are absolutely stunned with the total from this year’s appeal. The generosity of our supporters, even in these difficult times continues to be a source of pride for the Hospice community and inspires each and every one of our staff to continue to deliver the very best palliative and end of life care possible. We know our vital work wouldn’t be possible without donations from the public, and so on behalf of everyone here at St Columba’s Hospice Care I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported the appeal.”
The focal point of the Light up a Life each year is the stunning Christmas Tree, on which people are encouraged to dedicate a light, in remembrance of someone who has died. This year, the Hospice welcomed crowd to the lighting ceremony, which featured a performance from local singer Ciara Harvie. Almost 1000 people attended the ceremony in Charlotte Square Gardens on Monday 5th December. The lights were switched on by 8-year-old school friends Sibby & Ella, who decided to start fundraising for St Columba’s after Sibby’s family friend Nina Lowe died in the Hospice.
