St Columba’s Hospice Care is delighted to announce the opening of a new social enterprise space in the heart of North Berwick. Set to officially launch in Spring 2025, this vibrant new venue will feature a bookshop, gallery space, café, and gift shop, all designed to raise vital funds for hospice care.
Located in the former Westgate Galleries shop, the newly renovated space aims to provide a welcoming environment for the local community while generating crucial income to support hospice services across East Lothian. Prior to starting work on the building, the hospice will host a special, three-day Christmas pop-up shop in the space this month (Thursday 28th 2pm-6.30pm, Friday 29th & Saturday 30th 10am-5pm), offering festive cards, gifts, decorations and an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the exciting plans for the social enterprise.
With hospices across Scotland facing significant funding challenges, this initiative underscores the importance of diversifying income streams to secure the future of hospice care. Jon Heggie, Director of Income Generation, St Columba’s Hospice Care, said: “The financial pressures facing hospices in Scotland have never been greater. Launching this social enterprise space is an innovative way for us to respond to these challenges, ensuring we can continue to provide high-quality care for those who need it most. By shopping with us, enjoying a coffee, or visiting the gallery space, the community can directly support the vital work of our hospice while enjoying a unique and meaningful experience.”
The space reflects the hospice’s commitment to engaging with the North Berwick community, offering locals and visitors a chance to support a great cause in a beautiful setting. Proceeds from every purchase will go directly toward funding the hospice’s essential care services, helping individuals and families across East Lothian at their most vulnerable.
