Gaming for Good

Dedicated supporter Liam, also known as @Docy93 has been ‘gaming for good’ since 2018 and has built up a loyal following of over 2,000 people!

Liam has evolved his fundraising from holding an annual 24-hour livestream to full-weekend-long livestreams, to raise money in memory of his dad and uncle, who were both cared for by the Hospice. The latest and most successful stream to date raised £5,555, taking his total raised for the Hospice to over £18,000!

Winning moves for a successful livestream

We asked Liam for some of his top tips for anyone thinking about streaming or holding a livestream event to raise money for charity.

Start off small!

Livestreaming is mentally taxing. You don't want to put on a bad show, so start off small until you build your confidence.

Stay hydrated!

Drinking your water and stand up every hour or so. This will help keep your midn active and awake for the full length of your stream

Plan. Plan. Plan.

Have as much of the event planned as possible. This will help keep you on track and keep things entertaining for your audience. It also gives your audience something to look forward to.

Incentivise!

If possible, have incentives for people to donate. For example, I tend to get my legs waxed and have my hair dyed. Your incentives don't have to be extreme - they could be as simple as writing the donrs name on a shirt or even yourself!

It's good to talk!

Start talking to people and connect with other streamers that you get on well with, about the event a couple of weeks prior to build the hype.

Be social

Social media can be a great resource to help bring eyes to the event. Find the platform where your audience hangs out most and use it to help bring eyes to the event.
