Full or Part-time

Our North Berwick Café (part of our wider Bookshop and Gallery space in North Berwick) plays an important role for the Hospice in generating vital income and raising awareness of our services.

We have a new opportunity for a Café Manager to join the team.  This will be a hands-on role and will involve:

  • serving customers
  • displaying and replenishing stock
  • training, co-ordinating and staffing the café with a team of volunteers
  • ensuring a high standard of food hygiene and consistency of service
  • creating an open, welcoming, inclusive and friendly atmosphere which reflects the values of the Hospice

The ideal candidate will have previous café/shop and/or volunteer management experience, strong customer service skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people in an often busy environment.

You will have a warm, friendly and helpful manner and be able to assist others in an empathetic way.  You should be approachable and able to build a rapport with volunteers and customers.

Training will be provided.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Rosie Hansen on 0131 551 1381.

For further details about the role, including a job description and application form please see the 'How to Apply' Section below.

This post requires the post holder to have a criminal records check at Basic level.  An application will be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.  A joint application will be made which the Hospice will pay for.

We want to ensure that as much of our resources as possible go towards supporting people with a terminal illness and therefore we do not normally contact unsuccessful applicants individually.  If you have not heard from us within four weeks of the closing date, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.  However, we would encourage you to apply for other suitable roles.  Thank you for your interest in this vacancy and in working for St. Columba’s Hospice.
