Role description
Volunteer Services is a small team responsible for all volunteering associated with the Hospice. It is a dynamic work environment with ever changing priorities, where every day is different. We are a fun, sociable, but professional team with high standards. We are looking for someone to assist with a wide variety of administrative tasks and some practical support, such as helping out with events and occasionally in the café and on reception. Hospice staff and volunteers are expected to reflect our Hospice Values in the way they carry out their roles, and in their interactions with each other and with patients, family members and any other visitors. Our Values are: Care and Compassion, Respect, Trust and Partnership.
What will I be doing/ involved in?
- A wide variety of administrative tasks, using software packages such as Office 365, Sharepoint, Word, Excel and Better Impact.
- Practical support at events and occasionally in the café and on reception.
- Answering the phone, communicating with volunteers and staff
What experience or skills do I need?
- Administrative experience is essential
- Some experience with Office 365, Sharepoint, Word and Excel would be helpful, but training on Better Impact will be given.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build relationships with a wide variety of people
- Confident on the phone and a skilled communicator, able to liaise with volunteers, staff and senior management as required
- Strong understanding of boundaries and confidentiality
- A team player but also able to work independently
- Honest and trustworthy
- Flexible and adaptable
Time commitment and duration
One half day or full day each week. The role will be reviewed on a yearly basis.

Volunteer Services Manager and the Volunteer Services Administrator.

Additional information
- Hospice Chaplains are always available to support volunteers
- Volunteers may claim reasonable travelling expenses for transport to and from the Hospice. Please speak to your manager about this.
- The Hospice provides complimentary tea and coffee to all volunteers, staff, patients and families as part of the hospitality strategy.
- If you volunteer for a full day at the Hospice, you can claim a free meal from the staff café or Iona Café. Please speak to your manager about this.
