Role description

Our warehouse in Swanfield is vital for processing stock and giving us space to store large collections. It is the hub of all our shops and by volunteering as a donations processor you would be helping all our stores to raise vital funds for patient care.

Hospice staff and volunteers are expected to reflect our Hospice Values in the way they carry out their roles, and in their interactions with each other, the general public, patients and family members.

What will I be doing/involved in?

You need to be physically fit and able to help process stock donations in the Swanfield warehouse in Leith.

The warehouse deals with all large house collections; stock is sorted and sent on to our 7 shops.

You must have a good knowledge of brands and interest in clothing.

The role may also require sorting bric a brac/household items and will involve lifting/moving quantities of stock and standing during shifts.

You will be fully trained to process stock by the warehouse manager. 

Our donations are full of interesting items and this is fast-paced work in a relaxed environment.

 Please note that this is a non-customer facing role.

What experience or skills do I need?

  • Knowledge of clothing brands and interest in collectables

  • Very organised

  • Physically fit and able to lift, move, carry, and stand for long periods during your shift.

  • The ability to work quickly and take instruction.

  • The ability to work as part of a team and alone.

  • Interested and enthusiastic.

Time commitment and duration

One afternoon / morning each week/ fortnightly.  

The role will be reviewed on a yearly basis

Additional Information

  • Hospice Chaplains are always available to support volunteers   
  • Volunteers may claim reasonable travelling expenses for transport to and from the Hospice, or the place you volunteer, e.g. one of our retail shops. Please speak to your manager about this.  
  • The Hospice provides complimentary tea and coffee to all volunteers, staff, patients and families as part of the hospitality strategy.
