Role description

This is an exciting and varied role, volunteering alongside a small team with our New Goods Trading Manager, in our warehouse at Newhailes, Musselburgh.

If you are considering a career in retail or have always wanted to learn more about buying, stock control and distribution, as well as how an online shop is managed, this is the role for you!

Hospice staff and volunteers are expected to reflect our Hospice Values in the way they carry out their roles, and in their interactions with each other and with patients, family members and visitors. Our Values are: Care and Compassion, Respect, Trust and Partnership.

What will I be doing/involved in?

You will help manage the stock for our new goods offer at the Newhailes warehouse. This may include keeping the stockroom tidy and organised, checking deliveries, pricing and then inputting items on the stock system, replenishing and allocating new stock to our Café Shops, and picking, packing and dispatching online orders. You may also help with occasional stocktakes and general administration.

What experience or skills do I need?

Experience in stock management, retail or distribution would be helpful but is not essential. This role would suit someone who is organised, accurate, hands-on and happiest working behind the scenes.

The role is physical, so you will be on your feet, lifting and moving stock and boxes. There is no lift in the building, and the stock is held on the 1st floor.

Confidence using computers is also useful, as much of the work involves our stock system.

Time commitment and duration

One morning or afternoon each week during normal working hours Monday to Friday. There is the possibility to increase this commitment. The role will be reviewed on a yearly basis.

Where will I be based?

St Columba’s Newhailes Warehouse, Unit 8, Newhailes Industrial Estate, Musselburgh, EH21 6SY.

Due to the location, it would be helpful if you can travel by car or bicycle if local to Newhailes. Free parking is available on site.

Who will be supporting me?

Fiona Kinnaird, New Goods Trading Manager

Who else will support me?

The warehouse team.
